Statutory Sick Certificates

How do I get a sick certificate?

If you are off work sick for seven days or less, your employer cannot ask for medical evidence that you’ve been ill. The seven days include days that you don’t normally work, so when you work out how long you’ve been off sick you should include weekends and bank holidays.  You can use a self-certificate to inform your employer of your illness, see link below:

If you’re off work sick for more than seven days, you can ask your doctor for a ‘Fit Note’ (these have replaced sick notes). If you have seen the doctor about the illness, you can leave a message for your doctor and they will contact you, you may not need to attend for an appointment.
